Assam: APMU announces indefinite strike from March 4 demanding higher remuneration
Guwahati, Mar 1: The Assam Petroleum Mazdoor Union (APMU) on Wednesday announced an indefinite strike from March 4 demanding higher remuneration and other statutory benefits.
Talking to reporters, APMU general secretary Ramen Das stated that the strike will stop the movements of all LPG-carrying tankers and cylinder trucks which will result in a shortage of fuel in the retail market.
“The loading and unloading will totally stopped in the entire Assam which will affect the the people of the state. If our demand would not meet them we will intensify our movement,” said Das.
He said, “The transporters engaged by the oil marketing companies are “exploiting” the workers by giving “very little salary” without any benefits like provident fund, gratuity and Employees State Insurance Corporation,”.
“The workers are getting a meager amount. No labour laws is followed by the transporters and the companies. We urged them to provide them all the benefits,” Das stated.
Meanwhile, the Indian Oil Corporations(IOC)sent letters to all transporters and distributors to amicably address issues.
