On account of the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the Panvel Municipal Corporation took a significant step towards upgrading the existing Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Bhavan by laying the foundation stone for its beautification and infrastructural development.
The ceremony took place at Survey No. 318, Ward No. 19 under Ward Committee-3, in the presence of MLA Prashant Thakur, Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Mangesh Chitale, and other dignitaries.
The Bhavan, which already serves as a critical academic hub with its municipal-run library, is frequently used by students preparing for competitive examinations.” As part of the new development plan, the facility will see the installation of air-conditioning and other modern amenities aimed at improving the study environment and enhancing user experience. The initiative reflects the civic body’s commitment to fostering education and knowledge — ideals strongly associated with Dr. Ambedkar’s legacy,” said an official.
Speaking at the event, MLA Prashant Thakur emphasized the importance of the Bhavan as a space for both intellectual and cultural growth. “This upgraded facility will not only support the academic aspirations of young students but also emerge as a vital center for social and cultural gatherings for the local community,” he said.
In addition to the foundation stone ceremony, dignitaries paid floral tribute to Dr. Ambedkar’s portrait, reaffirming his enduring contribution to social justice, equality, and education.
Earlier in the day, the Panvel Municipal Corporation also unveiled a marble-engraved replica of the Constitution’s Preamble at its headquarters, further commemorating Ambedkar Jayanti with a focus on constitutional values and civic awareness.
