Guwahati: Taking a step towards making districts the fulcrum of administration, the 5th Deputy Commissioner’s conference got underway in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts on Monday.

On the first day, group meetings were organised at five venues in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts.

The meeting of Group number 5 consisting of the Deputy Commissioners of Chirang, Kokrajhar, Baksa, Udalguri, Dima Hasao, Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong districts was held at the Water Resources Department guest house in Dibrugarh.

State cultural affairs minister Bimal Borah chaired the meeting where Additional Chief Secretary Biswaranjan Samal and other senior officials were present.

“In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas, the government of Assam under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is committed to ensuring seamless access of all Central and State initiatives to the populace of each of the district and creating each District as a unit of administration and help promote local governance, accountability, and development by bringing the government closer to the people it serves. The conference has been organised to review details of progress of each of the department of the districts and also to discuss the progress of the flagship schemes of the Central and State governments which are being implemented,” state minister Bimal Borah said.

There were presentations on the flagship schemes that included health and family welfare programs such as PMJAY, agriculture initiatives like PM-KISAN and PMFBY, and revenue and disaster management schemes like Mission Basundhara 2.0 and SVAMITVA in addition to discussions on environment and forest management, and education initiatives.

The meeting of Group 2 was held at the Dibrugarh University Guest House where Deputy Commissioners of Nagaon, Morigaon and Darrang districts were present. State finance minister Ajanta Neog presided over the meeting where senior government officials including Additional Chief Secretary Ravi Shankar Prasad were present.

The meeting of Group 3 was held at the OIL Conference hall at Duliajan in Dibrugarh district where Deputy Commissioners of Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Nalbari, Barpeta,Bongaigaon, Goalpara,
Dhubri and South Salmara were present. State food and civil supplies minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass chaired the meeting where senior government officials including Additional Chief Secretary Syedain Abbasi were present.

The meeting of Group 1 was held at the Digboi Club in Tinsukia district where Deputy Commissioners of
Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, Golaghat and Majuli districts were present. State PHE minister Jayanta Malla Baruah presided the meeting where top government officials including Additional Chief Secretary Maninder Singh were present.

The meeting of Group 4 was held at the CTA Guest House in Digboi, Tinsukia where Deputy Commissioners of Sonitpur,Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts were present. State health minister Keshab Mahanta chaired the meeting where senior government officials including Additional Chief Secretary Ashish Kumar Bhutani were present.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will attend the DC’s conference on May 16 and 17 at the Convention Centre in Tinsukia.
