In a shocking incident, four men attacked police constables who were on patrolling duty for allegedly stopping them over rash driving at the signal near Khadki Police Station in Pune. The incident took place on Thursday (July 31).
The accused have been identified as Junaid Iqbal Sheikh (27), Nafeez Naushad Sheikh (25), Yunus Yusuf Sheikh (25) and Arif Akram Sheikh (25). All are residents of Bhosari.
According to the police, they were simply trying to stop the KTM bike riders when they were suddenly attacked.
Constables Gopal Devsingh Kotwal and Kajle from the Crime Branch were on marshal duty when they noticed two KTM bikers riding recklessly at the signal. They stopped the vehicle and questioned the biker. However, instead of cooperating, the four men on the two bikes started abusing and later the altercation turned into physical violence. They pushed them to the ground and kicked them multiple times.
They somehow rushed to Khadki Police Station and asked for help. After the attack, the injured officers lodged a complaint. The police immediately arrested all four accused.
Vikram Singh Dattatray Kadam, speaking to The Free Press Journal, said the accused were coming to attend their friend’s birthday party in Bundgarden when the incident took place in Khadki.
The accused have been arrested, and the matter is under investigation.
