Vadodara MLA Outsmarts ‘Digital Arrest’ Scammer with Epic Comeback: “I Was Your School Principal!”
Vadodara, December 29, 2025: An attempt by cyber criminals to “digitally arrest” BJP MLA Yogesh Patel from Manjalpur in Vadodara has created a sensation in the area. This incident highlights the growing new tactics of cyber fraudsters, who extort money by intimidating people.
MLA Yogesh Patel received a phone call from an unknown number. The caller, claiming to be speaking from Mumbai, said, “I am calling from Mumbai; I have sent you a notice.” Upon hearing this, Yogesh Patel immediately became suspicious of the call. Displaying prompt alertness, he informed Police Commissioner Narsingh Komar and State Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi about it.
In a witty tone, Yogesh Patel told the caller, “I was the principal of the school where you were a student.” Hearing this, the caller panicked and immediately disconnected the phone. This clever response foiled the scammer’s attempt, keeping the MLA safe.
This incident underscores the dangers of the digital arrest scam. Across the country, cyber criminals pose as officers from the police, CBI, or other agencies and intimidate people over phone or video calls. They level false allegations, threaten “digital arrest,” and get money transferred. There is no such procedure as “digital arrest” under Indian law, and no investigating agency carries out arrests over the phone.
The MLA’s vigilance is commendable, as it thwarted the fraudsters’ plans. The police have initiated an investigation into the case. Experts advise that if such calls are received, do not panic; instead, immediately report to the nearest police station or cyber cell (helpline 1930).
This incident serves as a lesson for all citizens: awareness is essential to protect against cyber fraud. Never share personal or banking information on unknown calls, and directly contact authorities in suspicious cases.
