Jodhpur: A 13-year-old student died and two others were seriously injured in Jodhpur on Friday morning (August 15) after a vehicle rammed into their motorcycle, reportedly during traffic diversions made to allow Rajasthan Chief Minister’s convoy to pass for Independence Day celebrations.

The incident took place near VC House in the Airport police station area, when the students were on their way to Barkatullah Khan Stadium to attend the event. Lokendra Singh died on the spot, while two other boys sustained serious injuries. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma was scheduled to visit the Shaheed Smarak via the same route.

Family Alleges Negligence in Security Arrangements

Relatives of the deceased have accused the Jodhpur administration of negligence. Former MLA Manisha Panwar held local authorities responsible, questioning the absence of traffic safety measures on the Chief Minister’s route. She alleged that children were called early in the morning for the event without proper security arrangements in place.

Komal, sister of the deceased, said, “When we reached the spot, my brother’s body was lying there. My two other brothers, Pradeep and Mahavir, were injured. The person with them said that a truck had hit them,” as quoted by ETV Bharat.

Police Officials Wash Road for CM’s Convoy Soon After Accident

Police officials, including DCP Amit Jain and ADCP Virendra Singh, reached the site soon after the crash, though there was confusion over whether the vehicle involved was a gravel dumper or a bus. Officers confirmed that efforts were underway to trace the vehicle.

Hospital superintendent Vikas Rajpurohit said one injured student had been discharged, while another was undergoing surgery at MDM Hospital.

Shortly after the accident, police and the fire brigade used a large water hose to wash away blood stains from the road and cleared the damaged bike, reportedly to ensure the CM’s convoy could pass.
