Madhya Pradesh: BJP Dilemma Over ST-Upper Caste Candidate For State Chief

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The BJP has failed to work out a solution to the problems related to the election of the state president. The party’s district unit presidents were elected in January. But the election was put off for some reason or the other.
Now, after the Union Home Minister’s hints for conducting the state party presidents’ elections, it is assumed that the election will be held within the first fortnight of April. The bustles over the election stopped for a while because of the death of union minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s father.
According to sources, the party is in a dilemma over whether it should select a tribal candidate for the post or someone from the upper caste. The BJP has given ministerial berths to two tribal MPs from the state in the central cabinet.
But the tribal people have yet to get an important position in state politics. So, there are reports that a tribal candidate may be elected to the post of the state party president. The names of tribal MPs Faggan Singh Kulaste, Gajendra Singh Patel and Sumer Singh are doing the rounds for the post.
Apart from them, the name of union minister of state Durgadas Uike is also being discussed for the job. Among the upper caste leaders, the names of legislator Hemand Khandelwal and former minister Narottam Minister are in discussion for the top job of the party in the state.
Besides the BJP leaders, the issue of election of the party president was discussed with the RSS functionaries. The party is searching for a candidate who can maintain good relations with everyone and do the work fast. MP has always seen strong leaders as BJP presidents.
This time too there are possibilities to select a candidate who is well-acquainted with the party organisation. After holding talks with the senior leaders of the party, central organisational general secretary Ajay Jamwal has given his feedback to the party bosses. Now, the central leadership has to take a decision on the issue. Once it is done, the name of the candidate will be declared after certain formalities.
