– Farmer ID is now mandatory for new registrations under PM Kisan in 14 states

– Government aims to prevent fake beneficiaries from misusing the scheme

– No increase in the Rs 6,000 annual payout, government confirms

New Delhi: The central government has released the 20th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme, sending Rs 2,000 directly into the bank accounts of eligible farmers across India through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).

But now, a new rule has been introduced: if you are registering for the scheme for the first time, you must have a Farmer ID.

This rule is now mandatory in 14 states and may expand nationwide soon.

Why Is Farmer ID Now Needed?

The aim of this new rule is to stop fraud and fake registrations. In many cases, non-farmers submitted fake documents and wrongly claimed money meant for actual farmers.

The Farmer ID will make it easier for the government to verify real farmers and block middlemen or ineligible people from receiving benefits.

Will the Rs 6,000 Amount Increase?

Some farmers were hoping the yearly benefit amount of Rs 6,000 would be increased. However, Minister of State for Agriculture, Ramnath Thakur, recently informed the Lok Sabha that there is no plan to increase the payout for now.

The government wants to ensure stricter eligibility checks instead of increasing the amount.

How to Get a Farmer ID

The central and state governments are working together to build a digital database of farmers. This will include details like:

– Land ownership

– Crops grown

– Other personal and agricultural information

To register and get a Farmer ID, farmers can visit their local agriculture office or a nearby Common Service Centre (CSC).

Documents needed:

– Aadhaar card

– Land records

– Bank account details

Ways to Register for PM Kisan Yojana

Different states offer multiple ways for farmers to register:

– Self-registration through online portals

– Visit CSC centers for help

– Registration via agriculture or revenue officials

Assisted mode, where local officers help with documentation and entry

What is PM Kisan Yojana?

Launched in 2019, the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme aims to provide financial support to small and marginal farmers. Under this scheme, eligible farmers get Rs 6,000 annually in three equal installments directly into their bank accounts.

This money helps farmers buy seeds, fertilizers, or cover other small farming expenses.

So far, over Rs 3.90 lakh crore has been transferred to crores of farmers across the country.

Who Is Not Eligible?

Only farmers with cultivable land are eligible. Those with high incomes or working in professions like doctors, engineers, or government officers are not eligible under this scheme.
