Assam: 16-year-old pregnant girl dies on her way to hospital
Guwahati: A 16-year-old pregnant girl died on her way to hospital in Assam’s Bongaigaon district on Thursday.
Recently, massive crack down has been launched by Assam government against child marriage. As per sources, the teenaged girl developed complications after her family tried to get the baby delivered at home.
“After the condition of the girl worsened, she was rushed to the Chalantapara health centre, from where the doctors referred her to Bongaigaon. The girl died on her to hospital,” a sources said.
Meanwhile, police have arrested the husband of the deceased girl Sahinur Ali and her father Aynal Haque.
Over 2600 people have been arrested by the police across Assam as part of its crackdown on child marriage.
While taking to reporters, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the crackdown against child marriage will continue in Assam.
