Assam: Cache of ammunition recovered from tea garden in Dibrugarh
GUWAHATI, DEC 26: A huge cache of ammunition were recovered by the Dibrugarh police on Sunday night from the Jalan South tea estate in Upper Assam Dibrugarh.
Speaking to media persons on Monday, Dibrugarh SP Shwetank Mishra on Monday said that based on secret information, the police with the assistance of CRPF carried out a search operation at the Jalan South tea estate near the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) leading to the recovery. The ammunitions recovered included two bottle grenades, two magazines of AK-47 rifle, 12 rounds of AK-47 live bullets and two timer devices.
“Last night we got a secret information about sighting of ammunitions at the Jalan South tea estate. Accordingly a team of police and CRPF carried out a search operation in the tea estate and recovered the ammunitions. Those were old ammunition. The bullets had marking of the year 1993. Right now we don’t have any clue to whom it may belong. It may belong to some insurgent group. We are questioning the workers of the tea garden but no one has been detained so far. Investigation is going on,” the SP said.
