Assam: Four arrested for allegedly gang rape elderly woman and her speech impaired daughter in Guwahati

Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a gang of eight assailants barged into the house of an elderly woman and assaulted her and her speech-impaired daughter and later gang raped them in Satgaon area of Guwahati.

According to reports, the incident, which occurred on May 17 in Guwahati’s Satgaon locality, was only brought to public attention recently.

Police said the assailants went even further, smearing chilli powder on the private parts of both victims.

 The daughter, a 22-year-old woman, had been residing with her mother in Taltala after her marriage ended.

Police said Arun Pradhan, also known as Loote Pradhan, aged 55, attempted to establish a romantic relationship with the mother

 “The relationship was met with opposition from Pradhan’s family, leading to escalating tensions between the two families. Amit Pradhan, the son of Arun Pradhan, along with seven accomplices, forcefully entered the victims’ home and carried out the despicable act,” said a police source.

Meanwhile, police have arrested four persons and started their investigation into the case.

“It’s a heinous crime. Crime against women has been rising in the city. Every day domestic violence cases have been lodged in police stations across the state. But, this case is different because an old woman and her daughter, who was speech-impaired was gang raped. All the accused who were involved in the crime should be immediately booked and strict punished should be given to them,” a social activist said.
