Assam: Union minister Rameswar Teli takes stock of erosion in Dibrugarh
Guwahati, Mar 6: Union MoS Rameswar Teli on Monday visited the erosion affected Koli ghat area in Assam’s Dibrugarh to take stock of the situation.
Teli accompanied with BJP leaders visited the affected area and assured for all help to control the erosion.
Talking to media persons, Rameswar Teli said, “The erosion has been started in the area for last 15 days but it heavily affected the area on Saturday. A total of 220 meters of land were washed away into the river due to massive erosion. Three types of geo-bags were used to control the massive erosion,”.
“The Water Resource minister Pijush Hazarika already directed the department to take immediate measure to control the erosion. The mega bag technology was used to control the marauding erosion,” Teli added.
He further added, “The historic Dibrugarh town is under threat due to the massive erosion huge swath of land mass were washed away into the river. The Water Resource department has been working to control the erosion and if need, we talk to New Delhi for protection measures,”.
The DTP dyke is just less than 10 meters away from the erosion area. Massive erosion has affected huge land mass behind Dibrugarh Gurudwara area since Saturday.
According to experts, the river course of Brahmaputra has been changed suddenly is one of the reason of the massive erosion.
Meanwhile, geo-bags, mega-bags and c-type bags and Porcupine were used to control the massive erosion.
