Complete peace will return in Assam only after Paresh Baruah comes for discussion with government: Himanta Biswa Sarma
Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday said that complete peace will return in Assam only after Ulfa(I) commander in-chief Paresh Baruah comes for discussion with the government.
Sarma, while speaking at the 74th Republic Day celebrations held at veterinary field, Khanapara, urge Ulfa-I cadres and leaders to return back to mainstream and work for the development of Assam.
“I urge Ulfa-I(I) commander in-chief Paresh Baruah to shun violence and return back to mainstream and participate in discussion. When Paresh Baruah took up arms, the situation of Assam was different but now widespread development takes place in the state. Our government has been working for the All round development of Assam and very serious to solve the decade old Ulfa-I problems,” CM Sarma said.
On January 21, 2023, Ulfa(I) commander in chief Paresh Baruah clearly stated that they will not kneel down before the government of India. He also said they will continue their revolution till their main demand of sovereignty will not fulfill.
Notably, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 20 said that Assam government is directly or indirectly in touch with the Ulfa(I) leadership to bring them to the negotiation table.
“I am hopeful that the decade old Ulfa problem will be solve within five years with composit dialouge. I are ready are dialouge but Paresh Baruah should come and join for talks with the government,” CM Sarma stated.
The Himanta Biswa Sarma led-BJP government in Assam has been trying to bring back the Ulfa(I) rebels to mainstream.
