Gujarat’s “D-Day” on December 8: Party positions in the state and results of exit polls
After the polling results were tallied, it is now time to await the public’s decision. 182 candidates ran for election to the 15th Gujarat Legislative Assembly, and voting took place in two parts from December 1 to December 5.
On December 1, approximately 60.48 percent of those who were eligible to vote showed up at the polls. On December 5, about 58.7 percent of eligible voters participated in Phase II. Apathy among the urban electorate, which decreased voting, was blamed for the poor turnout.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has ruled the state for the past 27 years, starting in 1998. Among the major opposition groups contesting the election are the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Prior to the election, all parties engaged in intense campaigning, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s big road show in Ahmedabad on December 1 undoubtedly stealing the show.
According to India Today-Axis My India, the saffron party would win Gujarat with a resounding victory. With the anticipated victory, the BJP would be able to rule the state for a record-breaking seventh time in a row.
The exit poll predicts that the BJP will win 129 to 151 seats, while the Congress will probably win 16 to 30 seats, the AAP will probably win 9 to 21, and others could win 2 to 6 seats. There are 182 total seats, and 92 are required for a majority.
