Ahmedabad, 26 April 2023: On 25 April 2023 at about 2200 hrs, Indian Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Sub Centre, Porbandar received a call about Medical Emergency from Merchant Vessel Helen. The Panama flagged vessel was at approx 200 Kms from Porbandar, transiting from Sikka to Durban, South Africa, requested medical evacuation for one Indian crew whose right hand index finger was severed.

Indian Coast Guard Interceptor Boat C-161 was immediately sailed out and proceeded with high speed to establish rendezvous with the Merchant Vessel in the wee hours of 26 April 2023. The patient was safely evacuated and provided with preliminary medical aid on the Coast Guard Interceptor Boat whilst enroute to Porbandar. On reaching Porbandar at early morning hours, the patient was handed over to local agent for further management.
