Sensex closes at lifetime high of 61980.72
On Wednesday, equity benchmark indices finished in the green, with the BSE Sensex ending at a new lifetime high of 61980.72 thanks to purchasing in banking counters.
The 30-share BSE Sensex saw highs and lows throughout the day before closing 107.73 points, or 0.17 percent, higher at 61980.72.
The index increased by 179.58 points throughout the day to reach 62052.57, which is a 52-week high. The larger NSE Nifty ended the day at 18409.65, up 6.25 points, or 0.03 percent.
In Asia, Tokyo closed higher while markets in Seoul, Shanghai, and Hong Kong settled lower. In the afternoon session, Europe’s trading was primarily bearish. On Wednesday morning, the Dow Jones fell 0.13 percent.
At $94.12, Brent crude was trading 0.28 percent higher.
On Tuesday, shares sold by foreign institutional investors totaled Rs. 221.32 crore.
Due to negative trade figures and foreign fund outflows, the rupee lost 35 paise to end the day at 81.26 against the dollar.
On Wednesday, the first trading day, shares of Global Health, which runs hospitals under the Medanta name, ended more than 24% higher than the issue price of Rs 336.
The company’s stock began trading at Rs 398.15 and increased 18.49% on the BSE. It soared 26.45% during the day to Rs 424.90. Later, the stock increased by 23.70% to close at Rs 415.65 per share.
It began trading on the NSE at Rs 401, up 19.34%, and finished at Rs 417.30 per unit, up 24.19%.
