A woman has been accused of spreading superstition by claiming that the foot mark of Swami Samarth had appeared in her home and that a large quantity of ashes and sacred ash (vibhuti) were emanating from Swami Samarth’s book.
The Panvel city police have filed a case against her under the Anti-Superstition Act and have started an investigation. The action was taken after activists from the Maharashtra Anti-Superstition Committee lodged a complaint against the woman’s alleged miracle.

A video showing footprints in the house, along with heaps of ashes/vibhuti from the book
A video showing footprints in the house, along with heaps of ashes/vibhuti from the book, was then circulated online as proof of the miracle. Additionally, videos supporting her claim of the miracle and her divine powers went viral on social media. As a result, a crowd of devotees gathered at her house for darshan (viewing), believing in the alleged miracle. When activists from the Maharashtra Anti-Superstition Committee in Panvel saw the viral video, they raised objections, claiming that the woman was misleading people and performing fraud by creating the illusion of a miracle. They then filed a written complaint at the Panvel city police station.
Based on this complaint, the Panvel police have filed a case against the woman under the Black Magic Act and initiated further investigation. Monohar Tandale (Maharashtra Anti-Superstition Committee – Panvel) said, “The woman, who claimed that Swami Samarth’s feet mark appeared in her house and that fragrance emanated from his book, has been accused of misleading people and committing fraud by creating the illusion of a miracle.
A complaint has been filed against her with the police. If she can prove the miracle, the Maharashtra Anti-Superstition Committee will award her a prize of 21 lakh rupees. We are not against faith, but against superstitions.” In the process of visiting the idol at her house, people used to donate money as well, claimed the complainant Tandel.
