Tasmina Saiyad still can’t believe her luck after winning the recently held panchayat elections with a close margin. She is probably the youngest sarpanch in this region and carrying forward the legacy of her father, Saiyad Mahammadali Vazirali, former sarpanch of village Gothada in Savli. She promises to work towards improving roads, health, and education facilities in her village, specifically focusing on women’s education.

This panchayat election saw women taking center stage and getting power in their hands. Dr. Jaimini Jaiswal takes control of Indraad village as a highly educated sarpanch, while Tasmina Saiyad is elected as sarpanch of Gothada village as the youngest one.

Tasmina, in particular, is clear about her ideas to make her village a model for others in this area to follow. She is eager to work toward uplifting the people of her village.“My father was the former sarpanch, and I saw him work to improve the basic facilities, especially water supply, in this village. I am just carrying forward the legacy of my father and the work he did during his tenure. Being a girl, my first priority is focusing on education and health, especially girls’ education, and developing mahila gruh udyog to empower women.

Road beautification is also on my list, and I want to develop the internal roads in such a way that everyone can walk and enjoy the beauty of the monsoon, which they avoid during these days. Also, it can connect my village to the main approaching road and help people commute easily. There is already a health sub-center here, and I am working to improve the facilities and also to bring an ambulance for the village to help people reach medical facilities on time,” said Tasmina Saiyad. Her father, Saiyad Mahammadali Vazirali, is happy with his daughter’s triumph as the new sarpanch of the village. “She has had leadership qualities since childhood, and the respect people have for her is overwhelming. Now she is eager to work toward the development of the village. My support is always with her, and I am hopeful that she will do good for the people of Gothada,” said Saiyad Mohammadali Vazirali.Tasmina loves to read fictional books, listen to music, draw, craft, bake, and play badminton.
