Ashish Varma, an officer of the 1991 batch of Indian Railway Stores Service (IRSS), has taken over the charge of Principal Chief Materials Manager of Western Railway on 08th December, 2025. Prior to this, he was serving as Chief Vigilance Officer at Rail Wheel Factory, Bengaluru. He has also earlier worked on Western Railway as Chief Materials Manager from March, 2019 to July, 2022.

Varma has over 33 years of rich experience in the fields of Public Procurement, Supply Chain Management and Vigilance on Indian Railways. During his illustrious career, he has served in various important capacities across Northeast Frontier Railway, West Central Railway, Western Railway, Central Railway and Rail Wheel Factory. He is widely recognized for his deep professional expertise and administrative acumen in material management and procurement systems.

An Engineering graduate in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering, Varma also holds a Master’s degree in Communication Systems. He has undergone several prestigious professional and management training programmes at institutions including National Academy of Indian Railways (NAIR), erstwhile Railway Staff College, Vadodara; INSEAD, Singapore; ICLIF, Malaysia; ISB, Hyderabad; IIM, Lucknow; IRILMM and others, further strengthening his domain knowledge and leadership capabilities.
