Indore (Madhya Pradesh): A team of Lokayukta special police establishment arrested an officiating head constable posted at MIG police station while accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 through a middleman, an official said on Saturday. The head constable had allegedly demanded Rs 5 lakh from a woman for not arresting her in a case filed by her husband.

According to SP Lokayukta Rajesh Sahay, the action was taken following a complaint lodged by Megha Delwar, a resident of Anoop Nagar, at the Indore Lokayukta office. Delwar said that she had a domestic dispute with her husband after which her husband lodged an FIR against her for assault at MIG police station.

The investigating officer head constable Arun Sharma demanded Rs 5 lakh from her around 10 days ago to weaken the case against her. He even threatened to send her to jail if she did not give the money. After verifying the complaint, the Lokayukta team set a trap and caught the middleman Ayub Khan red handed while taking Rs 50,000 from Delwar at her house.

Later, the team caught the head constable accepting the money through Ayub Khan near MIG police station. They were taken to the Lokayukta office and a case was registered against them under Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act and section 61(2) of the BNS. Further investigation is underway.
