Purnia (Bihar): With the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 approaching, a new political twist has emerged. Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati Maharaj has announced that Gau Rakshaks (cow protectors) will contest on all 243 assembly seats in Bihar. The move is being seen as a major attempt to bring Sanatani values into the state’s political landscape.

The announcement came during the Gau Mata Sankalp Yatra held in Purnia, where the Shankaracharya addressed a large gathering of devotees. He declared that only those who are committed to the protection of cows deserve electoral support, adding that “the preservation of Sanatan Dharma is possible only through Gau Mata’s protection.”

Political Impact in Bihar

Swami Avimukteshwaranand’s declaration has created a buzz in Bihar politics. He confirmed that independent candidates representing cow devotees will enter the election field from every constituency. He also appealed to Sanatani Hindus to campaign actively for these candidates, with the broader goal of having Gau Mata declared as Rashtra Mata (Mother of the Nation).

He emphasized, “Cow protection is not just a religious belief, it is the cultural and social foundation of our country. Voters should only support candidates who firmly commit to Gau Raksha.”

Disappointment with National Parties

The Shankaracharya revealed that he had approached major national parties in Delhi, urging them to support the demand of declaring the cow as Rashtra Mata in Parliament. However, he claimed that no party responded clearly to the request. According to him, this forced his decision to put forward Gau Bhakt candidates in the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025.

Consultation with Gau Sevaks in Purnia

During his visit to Purnia, Swami Avimukteshwaranand performed Gau Poojan (cow worship), fed cattle, and interacted with local Gau Sevaks. He assured that after the nomination process is complete, a formal list of candidates would be released. The Shankaracharya also sought the opinion of Gau Sevaks about their role in contesting and campaigning.

The event was marked by a spiritual and cultural atmosphere, as a large number of devotees gathered to listen to his address. His call for cow protection and Sanatani politics was received with enthusiasm and reverence.

New Religious-Political Dimension in Bihar

As Bihar Elections 2025 draw near, this announcement has added a new religious and cultural dimension to the political contest. Analysts suggest that the entry of Gau Rakshaks into the electoral arena could influence Sanatani Hindu voters across the state and reshape Bihar’s political landscape.
