Police are to provide security for those conducting the PMAY survey, West Bengal’s chief secretary orders
State Chief Secretary HK Dwivedi called a meeting on Tuesday and ordered police to give security to such workers after receiving complaints from several districts about panchayat and Integrated Child Development Services (Anganwadi) workers experiencing “harassment” while conducting a survey on PM Awas Yojana (PMAY).
The chief secretary has made it plain that those who own pucca houses would not be included on the list of recipients for the welfare programme, according to sources from the state secretariat.
In order to examine the status of the work, the chief secretary called an urgent conference on Tuesday with the district magistrates and additional district magistrates in charge of carrying out the project. After receiving “complaints concerning the implementation of the strategy,” the administration called the meeting. Additionally, ICDS and panchayat employees complained to the organisation about harassment by local ruling party leaders for leaving names off the list of beneficiaries. A state-wide inspection was conducted on Saturday to determine the progress of the project.
Several districts’ development reports, including those from South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, Malda, Murshidabad, Cooch Behar, and Hooghly, reportedly incensed the chief secretary.
After reviewing the accusations, the chief secretary requested that the district administration and state police give the survey’s workers, who work for ICDS, security.
He reportedly warned several of the districts that if the issue is not resolved right away, he would do so.
