HSRP Deadline Extended to November 30: Pune Vehicle Owners Still Report Technical Glitches, Low Fitment Numbers
The Maharashtra government has extended the deadline for installing High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) from August 15 to November 30, 2025, looking to ease the process for vehicle owners, as many vehicles are still on the road with old number plates.

Meanwhile, vehicle owners complain about the delay in the installation and also raise their voices against technical glitches, delays in the availability of allotments, etc.
According to the information received, as of July 31, 2025, official data shows a total of 7,22,355 orders have been placed for HSRP in Pune. Of these, 6,61,119 appointments were scheduled, and only 5,07,402 fitments have been completed. This is a small fraction compared to the estimated 25 lakh vehicles that require HSRP installation in the city, leaving a large number of vehicle owners pending.
Ramesh Kulkarni, a vehicle owner, speaking to The Free Press Journal, alleged that securing an appointment at fitment centres is a time-consuming process. “I tried booking three times, but the website either crashed or showed no slots. However, now I have installed it, but it was a very frustrating process,” he added.
Mahesh Pawar, another vehicle owner, said, “I have been ignoring it, thinking it is not urgent. Now with the extension, I will do it later. Authorities need to promote the importance of this number plate.”
Speaking to The Free Press Journal, Swapnil Bhosale, Deputy Regional Transport Officer, said the technical issues have been resolved. “Vehicle owners need to use the extended window to comply with the rule. This is a safety and anti-theft measure. We request vehicle owners to install HSRP before the new deadline to avoid penalties. The extension of the deadline is a relief from getting a penalty. For now, vehicle owners have three months to get HSRP installed. The last-minute rush could overwhelm fitment centres in November.”
