In the early hours of Saturday (August 17), a significant derailment occurred involving the 19168 Sabarmati Express, a passenger train traveling from Varanasi to Ahmedabad. The incident took place near Govindpuri station in Kanpur, where 20 coaches of the train derailed, according to rail officials.The derailment, which occurred at approximately 2:30 am, has fortunately not resulted in any reported loss of life or injuries, but it has caused major disruptions to rail services in the area.Cause of the derailmentShashikant Tripathi, the senior public relations officer for North Central Railway (NCR), confirmed that the derailment happened between Kanpur and Bhimsen railway stations.

He said there is no report of loss of life or property.“The loco pilot said that some boulder hit the cattle guard (front portion) of the engine which got badly damaged and bent,” a Railway Board official said.Cancellations and reroutingDue to the derailment, seven trains have been cancelled, and three have been rerouted.
