Fragrant and nutritious Kalanamak rice, Buddha's gift to people, gets new powers and name

The Indian Agriculture Research Institute has successfully tested two new varieties of the traditional Kalanamak rice in Uttar Pradesh, doubling yield and doing away with the problem of lodging. The two dwarf varieties of Kalanamak rice have been named Pusa Narendra Kalanamak 1638 and Pusa Narendra Kalanamak 1652.
