Students at the Calcutta Medical College protest: tomorrow’s meeting with the health secretary
On Sunday, the Calcutta Medical College and Hospital students who are demonstrating in favour of their demand for the convening of the student council elections continued their third day of fasting.
They are adamant that the scheduled student council elections take place on December 22. Tuesday at Swasthya Bhawan, state health secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam will meet with the protesting students to try to find a solution. S logans were raised when the Health Secretary visited the medical college on Saturday, but despite his previous meetings with the students, he was unable to resolve the impasse. Anjan Adhikari, the college’s principal, and senior faculty members had previously been gheraoed for almost 30 hours.
